5. You Can Drink Wine

Wine is another item on the Mediterranean diet list that is full of antioxidants. We’re not giving you a free pass to start the day drinking with every meal, but a glass of wine here and there is definitely fine. Wine is relatively low in sugars and calories in comparison to other forms of alcoholic beverages (such as cocktails, beer, etc) so while some diets try to eliminate alcohol entirely, the Mediterranean diet makes an exception for wine due to these reasons.
