Why The Mediterranean Diet Is A Healthy Diet
It can be seen from the aforementioned food guide that the Mediterranean diet can make one healthier. In general, there are several reasons why a lot of people love this diet, and that’s what we are going to talk about here.
1. Calorie Counting Doesn’t Exist Here
It’s not that most people love to eat calories; it’s just that the foods that satisfy their cravings unfortunately are filled with too many calories! If you want to learn how to live healthier with the Mediterranean diet then you may have to ignore what your cravings are telling you and ditch red meat, desserts, and other foods that are high in calories and low in nutritional value. If you can manage this level of self restraint, you won’t need to waste time or energy counting calories; you’ll be full well before you cross your daily calorie limit!
2. It’s Green
And brown, and orange, and red. The point is, vegetables can never be absent in any dish because the Mediterranean diet is all about veggies! Vegetables are a good source of vitamins and minerals that can make the body healthy, and are low calorie and nutrient dense foods that will boost your metabolism and levels of energy.
3. Some Spices Are Good Antioxidants
Apart from making the dish flavorful and vibrant, the spices Mediterranean cuisine uses can fight diseases and other health problems that one may encounter because of their high levels of antioxidants.
4. Mediterranean Food Can Make You Full Longer
Many foods on our list of “how to live healthier with the Mediterranean diet” are very filling; Therefore, you don’t have to eat every few hours, which is good if you are trying to lose weight or if you are busy and don’t want to deal with hunger in the middle of work. The Mediterranean diet consists of foods that take longer to digest due to high nutrient density.
5. You Can Drink Wine
Wine is another item on the Mediterranean diet list that is full of antioxidants. We’re not giving you a free pass to start day drinking with every meal, but a glass of wine here and there is definitely fine. Wine is relatively low in sugars and calories in comparison to other forms of alcoholic beverages (such as cocktails, beer, etc) so while some diets try to eliminate alcohol entirely, the Mediterranean diet makes an exception for wine due to these reasons. Just make sure to keep it within reason!
